I’m kind of a huge film fan. Basically my criteria is as follows: If someone spent the time to put together a feature length story, I’ll watch it at least once as long as I can find the time. Now obviously this doesn’t mean I’ve seen everything, but my DVD collection isn’t tiny by any means and I spent a vast majority of my time in theatres. Anyways, I popped in Inconvenient Truth last night after catching the bit of Futurama that Gore uses in his presentation (clip below).

But after sitting through about half an hour of it, I realized that since I’ve seen it already, there really wasn’t a whole lot more I could get out of it. Thus, I made a list of movies that I probably don’t need to see anymore for various reasons. Here are the top 5:

Fahrenheit 911 – Depressing, Scary and its’ basically been all over the news for the past five years.

300 - Stylized, Lacks Story and I think the only reason I was at all interested in this in the first place was because Zac Snyder was relatively new at the time and I heard some buzz about what he was doing.

Milk - Good Story, Satisfactory acting but I think the length of this movie really killed the momentum. Now that I’ve seen it once, I think I’d enjoy an actual documentary about Harvey Milk rather than watch Sean Penn.

Requiem For A Dream – Great movie, but the amount of squeamish scenes is too much for me. I’m not a huge fan of watching people wig out and inject things into their bodies. The scene where Leto loses his arm is also quite disgusting.

King Kong (Peter Jackson) – This was definitely more of a theatre experience than anything else. Jackson really knows how to take advantage of the big screen and because my home TV can be counted by inches, I don’t think it’ll be all that impressive. Also cause if I ever do want to watch it again, I could probably just head over to Best Buy and sit in their made-up sample home entertainment system and watch it for free.

So there you have it, the top 5 films I don’t think I’ll ever watch again. I want to make it clear that none of these films are entirely “Bad,” but at the same time, I don’t think I can actually watch any of them ever again. There are movies that you love in the theatre, then take home and it isn’t the same, there are movies that are flat out terrible that you regret seeing and there are movies that teach you something that sticks in your memory leaving nothing more for multiple viewings.

See ya’ll later.

Morning kids,

Stayed up a little late last night and caught a 9PM showing of Watchmen at the local Googleplex of Theaters out in the burbs. I knew it was going to be a marathon, but I seriously don’t think I’ve ever had to pee so badly in my entire life. Zach Snyder should issue a warning to go up on screen about 15 minutes before the movie starts to make sure everyone in the theatre has emptied their bowels.

There was a movie too and this will be the shortest (and therefore BEST) review you’ll read about the Watchmen – It’s pretty damn good, but pretty damn long. Read the comic before so you know why things are happening, then read it again to get the full experience. No Black Freighter.

Hope you enjoyed my thorough review – I obviously do not do this for a living.

I’m sure most of you have seen the trailers, read the articles and pretty much followed the story behind the creation of Zac Snyder‘s Watchmen film. They promote more than the US armed forces and have spent over 100 Million bucks on the damn thing already. Also, if you live in Vancouver you might have noticed the shoot last year taking place all over downtown.

I’m not a big Snyder fan. I thought 300 was cool to look at for like 5 minutes, then it felt a little too much like a really long opening to gay porn (not that I would know what one of those would be like… seriously…), much in the same way Ultimate Fighting is really just a televised sausage swinging fest. But back to Snyder – is he the man for the job?

Cinema or porn?

I think so and it’s not because of his “skill,” or his “stylized way of shooting a film,” Zack Snyder is the perfect person to make the Watchmen because he’s been set for failure and nobody would really care if he crashed and burned.

As a comic, Watchmen is probably one of the strongest in history. I’m not kidding – you can quote me on that. But as a story, as an experience for a reader – the Watchmen is an untouchable entity. The outcry from Alan Moore (creator and writer of the original) himself should be proof enough that the adaptation shouldn’t happen.

So will I watch the Watchmen? Probably – but not because I’m hoping to see the brilliance of Moore’s story on screen – I’m mostly interested in seeing if Snyder is actually a director – or if he’s Michael Bay’s adopted kid brother….
