Okay, you know what’s strange? If I went ahead and made a rap video/song about a TV character and threw it up on YouTube I’d be thrust into the category of Creepy/Strange/Outlandish and pretty much anything and everything that would land me a segment on Dateline as a predator… But that’s just me and I’m not Snoop Dogg.

So I guess the rules are these. If you smoke a ton of weed, become an internationally renowned hip-hop star, call yourself a pimp and forget how to spell simple words like “Dog” then I guess you wouldn’t get categorized as anything but cool.

Truth is, I think it’s pretty awesome that Snoop put this together. it’s actually less creepy than it is funny because he’s a fan of True Blood. Now I’d like to see Anna Paquin do an homage to let’s say Lodi Dodi.

Still catching up on everything I’ve missed in the last little while concerning movies, TV and this little thing we like to call the Interwebs, but while scouring to keep up I stumbled upon some interesting news. How much do you love Buddy-Cop flicks? I bet you can name a few off the top of your head right now. Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2 and, well, um… Lethal Weapon 3?

Okay, the point I’m trying to make is that there haven’t been a ton of them of late that have been worth seeing/quoting in the pub. Cop Out? The Other Guys? Nuff said.

So if you’re starved for a Buddy-Cop flick chalk full of one-liners, action and well, abdominal muscles so chiseled it just makes you uncomfortable, fear not because it looks like there’s something in the works. Without a title or director, there is currently a script floating around LaLa-Land about two San Fran partners (police partners – don’t assume things) who have to enlist the help of their fathers to solve some sort of crime. I’m not certain of anything at the moment other than maybe a few gigantic explosions, some catch phrases your neighbor will throw at you in an uncomfortable elevator ride and possibly a pin-up poster that lonely lady across the way would have on the inside of her closet, but one interesting rumour is the casting.

The Buddy-Cops being pitched in this sense are none other than the fantasy of your girlfriend’s dreams Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper. Yup, that’s right. The wise-cracking smooth operator from A-Team and the wie-cracking smooth operator from Green Lantern are rumoured to be taking this on in the future (although it is still unknown as to when). So, I now ask you. Without really knowing anything about the story or who will be making it, are you interested? I mean, collectively these two guys have like 800 visible ab muscles and have combined for a total of 27 minutes of one-screen time wearing a shirt…

Remember when it was huge news to find out who double-oh-seven would be shacking up with in his next flick? With names like Halle Berry, Denise Richards and Eva Green of some of the later Bond flicks, it’s tough not to notice. Well, with Bond now in limbo we’re going to have to turn our attention to another spy franchise – and with it, news of the latest Mission Impossible girl.

So in the midst of all of the debate over what exactly the next Mission Impossible flick will be (it’s actually been decided that the next installment is a reboot of the franchise), JJ Abrams, Tommy Cruise and director Brad Bird have decided on the next femme fitale/possible love interest of Ethan Hunt.

Meet Paula Patton.

If you’re up to speed on your movies, then Paula’s name isn’t coming from nowhere. You’ll recognize her face from Deja Vu, Hitch and most recently Precious. Here’s an interesting fact about Paula you might not know though – she’s got some Canadian in her. Paula Patton is actually married to Robin Thicke. The pop-star son of Canadian performer Alan Thicke have a son together.

*Note – I know the, “she’s got some Canadian in her,” is distasteful but I had to… Come on!

Morning Kids!

Yes, I’ve been extremely MIA in the last week or two but for good reason. I went home for a few days for some R&R and some thinking and I’ve returned to Toronto refreshed and ready to go! Go with what you ask? Well, I’m not really sure at this point because I basically only wrote that to get myself pumped up about going back to work – which is always a drag coming off vacation. In any case, it’s good to be back and to everyone out there who was wondering when I was going to post again (yes Mom, that’s you and probably only you…) the Bloated Penguin is back.

Onto more interesting and exciting things in the world of entertainment. First up, check out the new site for the Facebook movie, The Social Network. I’ve posted the trailers before, but a few days ago the actual site went live fully equipped with images, production notes and some information about what we can all expect on October 1st.

So we’ve covered the web and some nerdy Star Wars news, how about a little TV goodness right? Well, I’ve been meaning to post about True Blood for a while but I held my tongue/finger tips until now because I’m trying not to make bold predictions in hopes that I don’t look like fool online (not achievable). Anyways, here are a few thoughts on season 3 as it winds down and we approach the finale:

Sookie the fairy – not a fan

Sam the baddass – this could grow on me

Jason dating a panther/meth cook – yeah okay, I’ll buy this

Eric – I think he’s been the best part of season 3. I kind of cheered when he splattered Talbot

Russell – Nice villain. Kind of don’t want him to go.

Finally, I really want to see more of Jessica, Hoyt and Tommy in the last few episodes. It’s subtle, but I think something really bad is going to happen.

And what a wonderful Friday this is, is it not? Couple that with pay-day and a trip back to Van to see the boys and the Penguin is smitten. But you’re not here to talk about me right? So here’s some cool news coming in.

Kenny Powers is back! HBO’s Eastbound and Down will is returning September 26!!!

Sure we might all be a tad tired of the hillbilly act Danny McBride has become famous for, but Eastbound and Down allows him to step slightly to the left and instead of playing a mullet-headed overweight middle American, he’ll be playing a mullet-headed overweight, middle American former baseball player… Seriously though, East Bound and Down is by far the best work from Danny McBride since Foot Fist Way. When season 2 hits HBO next month you should give it a watch.

Alright, Ballet, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Darren Aronofsky and… a girl on girl make-out scene?

Possible Answer: In.

Check out the trailer for Black Swan below. A couple of ballerinas battle it out for the starring role in some dance and in the midst of all of the competition, one of them goes a lil’ nuts. I’ve heard rumblings about this for a while now and after getting some solid reviews from the Toronto film fest, I can actually see this doing alright. It’s probably not going to generate huge numbers, but I can see this being some sort of cult fav in a few years. Enjoy!

X-Men First Class news. Remember back when it was semi-announced that She’s Out Of My League star Alice Eve would be dawning the white leotard and playing Emma Frost in the new X-Men flick? Well, as with most rumours that was wrong. I bought into it as well so don’t feel so bad if you feel duped. On the flip side, the official news of who will be playing Emma Frost came down the wire a little while ago and in my opinion we’ve all traded up… Significantly.

Madmen enthusiasts will recognize January Jones who has now been slotted to play Emma and the rest of us can sit back and watch everything unfold. January Jones is best known for playing Betty Draper on Madmen where she dawns trendy clothes from back in the day and sometimes sports a giant hairdo. In any case, I think this is an amazing choice as the character of Emma Frost is so much more than just a lusty psychic. Hopefully Matthew Vaughn will take advantage of January’s talent, but more importantly let’s hope the studios don’t drop the script in the toilet again.

A collective sigh of relief fell over the nerd-world last week when it was officially announced by Georgey Lucas that New Hope, Empire and Jedi will be coming to Blu Ray. I’m sure I’m not the first to think this but,

It’s About Effen Time

It’s supposed to be chalk full of deleted scenes and a bunch of other nerdy Star Wars-y stuff. I for one can’t wait – although the release date still says Fall 2011. In any case, I kind of hope they don’t bring Episodes 1-3 to Blu Ray. I’m not going to razz on them like a lot of other people, but I think it just be so much more exciting if there was a short run of just the originals and then they all went back into George Lucas’ basement. Similar to the Disney Vault.

Been to the movies lately?

If not then I suggest your next visit should involve getting a ticket for Scott Pilgrim Versus The World. I’m not just plugging this because I’ve been obsessed with the comics for way too long, I’m actually plugging this for a few reasons.

1 – This is the greatest movie based in Canada ever (at least in my opinion).

2 – Ellen Wong‘s performance as Knives defines breakthrough

3 – Michael Cera can actually be more than awkward

and 4 – It’s different. Really different.

Sick of the predictable Mc-Movies that have been crammed down your throat in the last little while? Looking for a simple story with a not-so-simple concept? Need a movie that speaks directly to a generation of lazy video gamers obsessed with Easter Eggs? Hellz Yeah!
