Let The Games Begin!
Okay, so the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games (Woo Hoo SEO) officially started last week, but tonight marks the first ‘game.’ I’m speaking of course of the greatest and most talked about hockey event… EVER. With that French skier bouncing his way to Gold already breaking the curse, all eyes now turn to Canada’s Olympic Mens Hockey Team (or as I refer to them as, Stevie’s Kids).
I’ve been reading predictions, expectations, quotes and stats about Stevie’s Kids for like 4 years now, but as of this evening, the talking and predicting will end and the games will begin. I’ve written a few words about my feelings towards Canada’s team so far, but here are some more thoughts as we get closer and closer to face-off against those dreaded Norwegians…
So happy Dion Phenuef never got on this team. Living in Toronto now, the media has over saturated hockey fans with everything from human interest stories about the Pheneuf family to giving him Great White Hope status. It’s sickening to Michael Phelps proportions so it’ll be nice to have a Pheneuf-less couple of weeks for a while.
Our goalies (with the exception of Fleury) will be fine despite heading into tonight coming off bad NHL games. Broduer knows how to show up and Roberto gets to play in front of HIS fans so you know he’ll break out the game-savers. Lets just hope Babcock does the right thing and starts Louie when the medal round begins. On a side note, it would be great to hear how all of the international broadcasters explain what will sound like Booing, when in fact us Vancouverites know that it’s actually Lou-ing.
The welcome back (to Canada) Carter experiment didn’t work out so well for the Philly sniper as he was sent back to his couch after making a cameo appearance in YVR. I’m fine with it because for the next couple of weeks, I’ll put aside my hatred for Ryan Getzlaf and hope he and Cory Perry can pull off a Disney sized miracle.
Finally, and this is a big one, I’m super excited to see Russia run up the score on the US if they get the chance. When Canada plays the US it’ll be nice to beat them, but something tells me the American team would take it harder if the Russians ran up a double digit lead on them. Sorry Kesler, but my hatred for Kessel and Tim Thomas outweighs the Canuck pride for the next couple of weeks.
Hurry up and drop the puck already!.
