Here’s The Cast For Green Lantern
As many of you comic nerds (myself included so don’t take offense by that) are well aware of, Warner Bros. is putting together an origin story flick about The Green Lantern. The intergalactic cop that wears a green ring will be directed by Martin Campbell (The Edge of Darkness and Casino Royale) and brings with it a cast of substantial names. Say what you want, but it looks like these peeps are in.
Green Lantern / Hal Jordan played by Ryan Reynolds
I remember him best from 2 Guys A Girl and a Pizza Place, but most people will recognize him for his bit part in Wolverine, Blade Trinity and recently a few terrible rom-coms. The good ol’ Canadian boy will dawn the green and black suit, throw on the ring and fly around space solving intergalactic crimes with an edge. Okay, so that made Green Lantern sound a bit darker than he really is, but you can bet on the fact that Reynolds will be bringing some quick witted one-liners that 8th graders everywhere will be spouting off in home room the next day.
Carol Ferris played by Blake Lively
Dudes, don’t act like you don’t know who Serena Vanderwoodsen is. There’s no shame in knowing the name of the main character of Gossip Girl and now when people ask where she’s from you can say that she played Lilly Bass‘s daughter from the upper east side. All kidding aside, fans can be a bit nervous about this one. Other than some Traveling Pants flicks and some supporting roles in indie flicks, this is going to be Blake’s first big screen appearance in a major film. We know she can play a great spoiled little rich girl with a hippie attitude, but can she pull off the leading lady of one of comic lore’s most recognized characters?
Hector Hammond played by Peter Sarsgaard (yeah, there’s 2 a’s in that name)
Remember this dude from Garden State? Unfortunately that was his only truly memorable role for me, although I have yet to see An Education so maybe I’m out of the loop on this one. In any case, I always felt that he would make a really good villain on tone of voice alone. If you listen closely he’s got a bit of a young Jack Nicholson in him. I’m not saying he’s got the same acting chops as Jacky, but sometimes he sounds like him. And I think it’s that subtle tone and a bit of a squint in his eyes that tipped me off that Sarsgaard could play a memorable bad guy.
Senator Hammond played by Tim Robbins
Yup, this is the latest news to come from the Green Lantern camp. The legendary and extremely well respected Tim Robbins will play the father of Sarsgaard’s character. Robbins’ IMDB page reads like a “recommended” list from Blockbuster so there’s really no need to get into the details. That, and when Trey Parker and Matt Stone make a puppet version of you, you know you’re a star.
There is a rumor that Sinestro (the really big bad in the Green Lantern stories) could be played by Mark Strong. Although unconfirmed, you might recognize the name from Sherlock Holmes and the upcoming Kick-Ass. Not a bad resume if you ask me.
*If Green Lantern had a catch-phrase for leaving I’d end this post with it, but he doesn’t so I’ll just say laterskaters….
