Honest Ed’s Bargain Emporium
Hey Kids,
So as some of you are aware, I’ve picked up my life from Vancouver and moved out east to Toronto for the long haul. The transition was a bit dodgy at first, but now that I’m getting the hang of things, I’m really starting to like this city. Still hate the Leafs, the Raptors, the Blue Jays and the Argos, but really who doesn’t these days? Anyways, after a long few weeks of feeling my way around this city and trying to get comfortable, I’ve found a kind of sanctuary. While exploring the Annex yesterday I ventured quite far west on Bloor and ended up at one of the most amazing stores you’ll ever find.
Honest Ed’s is like a one stop shop for… EVERYTHING!
When I walked in I was expecting it to be like a gigantic dollar store where everything is cheaply priced, but also cheaply made. I also expected them to carry nothing more than a few no-name products and try to shove certain brand names down my throat. But what did I find? EVERYTHING and I’m not kidding. This isn’t an ad for Honest Ed’s, but I am impressed with how thorough they are there with things that people need.
First up, they have a full grocery store built inside sans produce.
They’ve got an electronics section that covers everything from HD televisions to VHS tapes. I’m not kidding, they have a large section of tapes for like a dollar each and I almost picked up What About Bob just for the hell of it.
They’ve got a furniture section.
They’ve got a section for preserves like jam and canned goods.
They’ve got an appliance section.
They’ve got toys.
And, get this, they’ve got a section called Immigration for some reason. I couldn’t figure out why they had or or even really what it is, but just the fact that Honest Ed has a section in his store called Immigration is awesome.
Anyways, I actually didn’t end up buying anything because I was so overwhelmed, but next time I stop inside there I’ll spend a little more time making sure I’ve seen everything. With no friends, no plans and no social life out here in Toronto, at least I know what I’ll be doing on the weekend.
Later
