Tony Noooooooo!
I had to wait a couple of days to find some time to finally catch up on 24, but I think I’m finally at the same point as most people following the real-time action packed FOX show. I think this is like season 8 or something, but I stopped counting a few years ago. I had actually stopped watching the show altogether for a few seasons because my favorite character Tony Almieda actually wasn’t in them… Until this year.
I hope this doesn’t spoil it for anyone reading this (sorry to all 4 of you), but Tony, who was bad at the start of the season, turned good for about 10 episodes, is now bad again… Confused? Probably, unless you’ve seen 24 before. The latest episode brought Jack‘s daughter and apple of Dion Pheneuf‘s eye back to the screen – but that was as anti-climactic as the Calgary Flames. What was really surprising is how everyone in 24 has adopted the whole, “when things get serious, just whisper to keep up the tension,” concept. I can’t stand that! I think it was invented by Claire from Heroes…
Okay, so upon review I’ve made way too many television references and even a couple of sports references without even addressing the change of Tony’s character. So here goes, and I’ll try not to keep you. Tony is, and always will be a nomad. If you look into his history, the government killed his wife and tried to kill him. If 24 was at all believable (and yes I know how ridiculous that sounds), Tony will never come back to work for the government. The show’s previews before the season started pitted Jack and Tony against each other, and over the final 6 episodes, I think we’ll finally be able to see it.
RIP Bill Buchannon.
